The Adoption Process
We want to make sure all of our dogs find their perfect forever home.
1. Application
The first step is to fill out an application online. Applications are located under the Applications tab. Let us know which pet you are interested in or we can help you find a pet from our available pets.
2. Home Check
Once your application has been reviewed, The Pit Bull Pen will contact you to schedule a home check. We love our pets and want to make sure the animals are placed in a safe and loving environment.
3. Meet-and-Greet
A meet-and-greet will be scheduled to give all family members and pets a chance to meet.
4. Adoption
If all goes well, the adoption process will be finalized and you will be able to bring home your new furry family member.

Herbert was thought to be an owned dog but recently learned information suggests otherwise. If he is owned, we are hoping his owner contacts us. We would rather help someone keep their pet secure than have them in a rescue - but for now, Herbert the Mastiff is safe. He is extremely laid back and has been great with people so far. Dogs and cats are unknown.

Now foster momma says I'm whatever a "diamond in the rough" and with some training I will be the bestest dog ever. I do know how to sit, I can be lured into a crate with special treats and will go to sleep but I would rather sleep on the bed with you. I do have a bad habit or two of pulling things from the garbage or sampling shoes or dirty laundry on occasion but it smells like you so how can you blame me, right?
I need time to get to know you when we first meet and I'll need some practice going places, being on leash, riding in the car, your friends need to give me time to get used to them and I will because foster momma says I'm a "rock star" and that I can do anything!!!
Freckles is a 3 year old heeler/border collie mix. He is current on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped and ready to love you. He is a little shy at first, but once you earn his trust, he will be your best friend!

Yukon had a rough start to life, ending up in a high kill shelter by the time he was the age of 6 months old. Fortunately, we were able to rescue him and get him adopted, but his adoption is not working out due to the level of trauma he went through in his young life. He is good with other dogs, but needs new people to go slow with him and let him come around to them. He is not good with cats, and not good with young kids. He requires a fully fenced in yard, and active lifestyle. He would really benefit from some formal training so that his new humans can learn how to communicate to him what they want from him.
While Yukon is emotionally damaged, he is doing his best to be the sweetest boy he knows how to be, and needs proper training, redirection & patience in his forever home. He has a strong relationship with his human dad, as opposed to his mom. This boy needs a hero, could that be you?

First off, I land myself in a rescue after emergency surgery because I ate some stuff I wasn't supposed to. I threw up the washcloth, but the hand towel didn't come out, so it was off to the vet I went.
Surgery went well and it quickly became evident that I have allergies and hadn't been fed properly which caused me to lose a lot of my hair and makes my skin pretty red most of the time. I was feeling a lot better when I was on Apoquel and that might be required again if I can't figure out what I'm allergic to.
I'm a big, lovey, fuzzy, goofball and all I want is a home where I'm going to be loved and cared for like I deserve. I'm rowdy sometimes but respectful, I LOVE to cuddle and lay in your bed so that's a must. I do ok with other dogs once properly introduced, typically I will run from confrontation. I was hanging out with a bunch of big poodles and we did pretty well.
I'm really bored and don't like living at the rescue and want a real home where I can develop my full potential, will you help me do that?
Please?

Nick is a loyal, smart and loving dog. He loves to run and play with other friendly and playful dogs. Strangers need to be introduced slowly and on his terms. Nick needs a calm home with patient humans.
Once he learns he can trust you, you will see that is he a wonderful dog. You can earn his trust by spending time with him in a quiet place while allowing him to explore the area and you. It's important not to rush this process.
Nick has some characteristics that need to be known by potential adopters to ensure his long term success.
-He will bark at strangers like the mailman and intruders.
-He will do best in a home with another friendly dog to keep him occupied.
-He needs a home that does not get a lot of guests.
-He does well in the kennel, which can be used when new guests come to the home.
-He does well when left alone, he is not destructive, he will find a quiet spot and nap.
Nick will be a great dog if he goes to the right home. He is proficient in cues like- sit, down, place, kennel, leave it, high 5, high 10, shake, crawl and leash walking!! Nick is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and dewormed. He is currently located in Tricities Washington. His adoption fee is $450.

Tanner loves doing everything with his family and other dogs, and is hoping to have another dog in his forever home. He loves the ladies, shy with strangers but warms up and is very loving and friendly with family and regular visitors. He lives with cats without any concerns.
Tanner is happiest if he can lay around with someone home all day. He has had some moments of destructiveness when left alone and does best if kenneled when nobody is home. He is neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and vaccinated. Currently located in Tricities Washington. His adoption fee is $400.

Now Cypress has recovered and needs a hero himself. He needs an adoptive home. Over a year ago Cypress was starved, frost bitten, and alone out in the country. He had taken shelter in a rural building and was frightened, not letting anyone approach him, and he wouldn't leave. They were out of options and we stepped in. With love and hot dogs we brought him to safety and since then he has been a part of The Pit Bull Pen family.
He flourished in a safe warm home with consistent meals and soon showed he was well house trained and loved tough chew toys and tearing up stuffed animals. We recently discovered his love for playing in water! He has been neutered, dewormed, vaccinated, and microchipped. He is a solid 80 pounds of love. He has gone through many months of training at @mattox and is eager to show off his skills.
We recently learned he is much older than we believed and our boy is an aged but still enthusiastic overgrown puppy at 8 years old. He does well with people with appropriate introductions and once he decides you are safe your lap is fair game, he is convinced he fits perfectly. He mostly ignores other dogs and does best with other polite dogs and more submissive ones.
Cypress cannot be housed with cats and is very high drive toward them.
Cypress was worth saving. He was worth healing him from frostbite and helping him gain weight. He was worth investing months of intensive training into. He deserves to find his amazing forever home where he can bask in the sun and frolic in water. He will be a beloved family member. He is currently in Tri-cities Washington and his adoption fee is $350.

Frankie has Cerebellar hypoplasia, which means part of her brain stem didn't didn't develop enough. It affects her balance and coordination. She has been living with it her whole life and it doesn't keep her from living a fulfilling life at all. She can run and play like other dogs and she is the most cheerful creature you'll ever meet. Generally she sometimes stumbles or steps off edges, she has occasional head bobbing motions, and she tends to hold her back legs wider apart than is usual. This is not a degenerative condition and the Frankie you meet today is the Frankie she will continue to be. It is not painful and she can be expected to have a normal lifespan.
Other dogs tend to be uncomfortable around Frankie and she has learned to expect them to be unpleasant to her. As a result we feel it is in her best interest to go to an only dog home. She has been cat neutral. She adores humans! Strangers are just friends she hasn't met yet. She is slightly awkward as if her legs aren't all original factory parts and her tongue is frequently out. She is a bit odd and beyond lovable.
Frankie is a year old mixed breed, predominantly Staffie and Rottweiler. She is dewormed, microchipped, vaccinated, spayed, and ready to be odd and lovable with her forever family. She is a volunteer favorite and is cheerful living at the rescue, she doesn't really know any other life, but we are all wishing she could find her people who will love her as much as we do. She is currently in Tricities Washington. Her adoption fee is $400.

Electron is a mystery mix, perhaps some terrier Pomeranian, who is microchipped, dewormed, and vaccinated. He has some hind leg tremors that don't appear to bother him. He likes people and can be selective about other animals, generally doing best when they interact politely with him. Currently located in Tricities Washington. His adoption fee is $350.

and pats.
Scout would benefit from slow appropriate introductions with any species except people. She loves people right away! She is good with kids and some other dogs, although she still needs consistent training to not to get too excited. Cats are unknown. She has signs of allergies and will need limited ingredient food choices.
Scout is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and dewormed. Currently located in Tricities Washington.

Kimi is a year old lab mix. She has completed training at Ridge Dogs and is a big lover of people. She has not been cat tested recently but lived comfortably with cats and dogs as a puppy. She isn't comfortable in over stimulating environments but is dog friendly with proper introductions.
Kimi is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and dewormed. She is currently located in Tricities Washington. Her adoption fee is $400.

Raya- black markings
Raya is sweet and mild mannered. She lives to play with her kid brothers and wrestle with her sister pup. She is fairly calm compared to her sister. She is crate trained and house trained. She has just figured out how to ring the bell to go out. She is like her foster mom-loves to sleep in! She is slow to come out of her crate in the morning when her sister is eager, bright-eyed, and wide awake. She is smart and a sweet loving family dog.
The girls are dewormed, microchipped, vaccinated, and spayed. They are currently in Tricities Washington. Adoption fee is $450.

Casey has had 10 teeth removed and he is feeling so much better now. We have also come to learn he has lost some vision and almost all hearing. He can see well enough to navigate daily life but the loss adds to his fearfulness. The way to his heart is through his stomach and he can be so brave for cheese.
Casey is extremely dog friendly and a fantastic canine pack member. His quality of life is greatly improved by having a calm friendly dog to follow the cues of to compensate for his loss of senses and help him be more confident. He is cat neutral, ignores them completely. He is some type of small breed mix and comes from a past with a lot of dogs around and not many humans at all.
Casey will need a very special forever home. A calm quiet home that understands this isn't a dog who will walk into your home and settle in. A companion who will know how hard it is for him the first time he tentatively nudges your hand, and will rejoice in the meaning of it. A family who will work as hard as he will to come together over time to be safe and loved. He needs another stable happy balanced dog in the home to follow the lead of. He also needs a secure environment indoors and out, he could be flight risk due to his fear and open doors are especially tempting. He will also be required to wear a gps collar.
Casey is vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and neutered. He is located in Tri-cities Washington. Casey is safe and happy in his foster home, and slowly growing braver, but he really does need a forever person of his own. They are out there somewhere. His adoption fee is $350.

She is great with other dogs and loves playing with the kitty. She instantly gains confidence to explore and be adventurous with another dog around, she would thrive in a home with a dog friend for her. She likes playing in water and could spend forever playing tug-a-war.
Wonder is a 1 year old lab pit mix. She is spayed, dewormed, microchipped, and vaccinated. She is currently in Tricities Washington. Her adoption fee is $400.

Mini is a cattle dog (full blood) and has all the traits that go along with a working breed. She is highly intelligent and quick to obey. She is strong willed when left to her own devices and fiercely loyal. She is athletic and energetic and is going to be a dream dog for the right home. She is not a couch potato pet and will need her activity for her mental and physical needs provided.
Mini would do best in a home with breed experience or comparable, and/or an adopter able to work with a trainer to help everyone be living their best lives. She is dog friendly, cats are unknown. She is suspicious of strangers but once you win her heart you have a faithful companion for life.
Mini is vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and spayed. She is currently located in Tricities Washington. Her adoption fee is $400.

He is not only smart and beautiful, but he's also eager to be around people and jumps for joy when he's happy - just like a shark when it spots a school of fish. But unlike a shark, Asher is a total sweetheart who loves to cuddle and play fetch with his humans.
This adventurous pup is always ready to explore and would make a great hiking or camping buddy. And while Asher loves his human friends, he would also benefit from a canine companion who can match his energy levels and playfulness. His thoughts about cats are unknown. He is crate trained and needs a refresher course on house training, but a pup as smart as he is should remember quickly.
Asher is a lovable and happy-go-lucky pup who's sure to bring joy and laughter into any home. So if you're looking for a four-legged friend with a unique set of chompers and an even more unique personality, Asher is the one for you! He has graduated from Ridge Dogs and is so very ready to meet his forever people!
Asher is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and dewormed. He is currently in Tricities Washington. His adoption fee is $450.

From her current home: Pinkie is a high energy pup but able to relax or nap easily. She’s loveable and snuggly; the very first night at my house she climbed onto my bed and cuddled up next to me, sleeping soundly all night. Loves to play rowdy, fetch balls (she's learning to bring back the ball), put her head out the car window, and eat her meals; also loves chewy toys and stuffed animals.
She has excellent hearing and will sound a bark alarm if she hears something moving outside; however, she quiets down quickly once I reassure her that everything is ok. She is beautiful, a bright white with blue-green eyes and elegant pink in her ears and face. She’s an all around sweetheart.
Pinkie would benefit from an individual or family who could take her on adventures. She is adaptable, learning to live with our family cat and playing nicely with a friend’s tiny puppy. She can be nervous at introductions and will need an adopter and any dogs to understand her need for a slower pace.
Pinkie is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. She is currently located in Tricities Washington. You
